William Blair Hedrick, age74 of Conneaut, died November 21, 2014 in Akron, Ohio at his daughter’s residence with his family at his side.
Blair was born on December 18, 1939 in Kerens, West Virginia the son of William F. and Gladys Sharp Hedrick. He was a 1958 graduate from Parsons High School, then came to the Conneaut area looking for work. He worked at the former Exomet and then was hired at General Aluminum where he worked for 22 years. He retired as the Plant Manager in 2006.
Blair was well known for his kind and caring manner. He also was known for playing on the famous Schlitz softball team in Conneaut as a catcher and pitcher. Blair loved to deer hunt every year in West Virginia with his brothers and friends. He enjoyed perch fishing on Lake Erie, gardening and canning his harvest from his garden. He loved to sit on his porch and oversee the neighborhood and his garden.
Blair was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Johnny Lee Hedrick, two brothers Hubert Hedrick and Chester Hedrick, and a sister, Gertrude Carr.
He is survived by his wife Judy Colangelo Hedrick, whom he married September 21, 1963 at St. Frances Cabrini, two daughters, Lorie and Shawn Needham of Akron, Cherie and Damian Sedlock of Akron, two grandchildren, Tyler and Bryan Needham, brothers, Bert Hedrick of Parsons, West Virginia and Dale and Frances Hedrick of Rivesville, West Virginia, four sisters, Otta Sue and Frank Ashby of Parson, West Virginia, Johanna Nelson of Elkins, West Virginia, Annis Dell Combs of Manassas, Virginia, Linda and Charles Canfield of Pheasant Run, WV and many, many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 28, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Raisian Family Funeral Home, 581 Harbor St., Conneaut.
Mass of the Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 744 Mill St, Conneaut with Father Philip Miller officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made in Blair’s name to the Corpus Christi Parish Building Fund, 744 Mill St., Conneaut. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.
