As we began to celebrate the birth of our Savior on Christmas Day, I was reminded of many years ago late 50’s early 60’s when we would gather to celebrate the same.
After a day of Sled riding on Kent Ave (plenty of snow and ice) back then we kids would gather at the Lutheran Church somewhere around 7 to practice for our upcoming evening of Caroling. Bill Miller was our youth Choir Director and there were many a Youth in this choir. Some names I recall were the Arnolds, Millers, Jack Roberts, S. Walters,K. Schurman, and some of who I have forgotten and of course all three of us Worden boys. Snowing, Windy, and Cold we would walk the streets of Davis stopping at the houses singing Christmas Carols. Some would come out to listen, some would give us treats.
Fanny Tekavec, and the Hotel were our favorites where we could warm our voices with Hot Chocolate and Cookies. It was a wonderful way to spread the good news of His Birth. We would return to the Church warm ourselves, more Hot Chocolate, then at 11 PM we would have our traditional Christmas Eve Service where we could join the Adult Choir and sing once again. It was a most wonderful experience and I am sure that those mentioned above can still remember these wonderful Christmas and Yule Tide memories. Wishing all a most joyous Holiday and wonderful New Year
