Letter to Editor

I am writing this letter to let you and the people of Tucker Co know what I observed on the evening of 15th of June and about the conversation that I had with an EMS employee on the morning of the 16th.

My name is Harry Hardy and I live in Bretz just down from the DOH garage. On the evening of the 15th at about 5:50 pm I was sitting on my porch when I saw a vehicle that I recognized going through the gate at the DOH garage. This vehicle belongs to an EMS employee, and it just seemed out of place. So, I took a ride on my ATV up by the garage and saw the EMS employee putting fuel in his private vehicle. I normally see this EMS employee about every morning down at the restaurant.

The next morning when the EMS employee came in, I asked him why he was putting fuel in his private vehicle at the DOT garage. First, he said it was none of my business, so I told him that I was going to make it my business because what he was doing was not right and most likely against the law.  He said that he uses his vehicle for the EMS. So, I told him that he is supposed to be paid Millage on his check for any mileage that he uses his personal vehicle company business, not get gas from the tanks at DOH. He said that the milage rate was not enough to cover what he does. So, his supervisors said they wanted to do something for him and told him to get gas at the DOH.

I was going to go to the County Commissioner’s about this, but I decided to write this letter and contact someone in Charleston about it. I personally do not have much faith in our County Commission and do not think they will do anything about it. I do not think this is a one-time thing, I have talked to some people that work at the garage that said they had seen that vehicle in there before but did not see it getting fuel. This fuel was billed to one of EMS vehicles, each one should have a key fob that turns the pumps on, only that vehicle that is a signed to that key fob should get fuel. It is a shame what goes on in this county that people do not know about.

One last thing is if I have said anything that anyone does not like or has hurt their feeling. I do not care!

Harry Hardy
