Editor,
Hello, I’m Don Stump, from just up the road in Preston County. This letter is to make you aware, if you weren’t already, that counties can have their own official state flag.
A county flag is an important symbol of fierce independence and proud local heritage. Aside from the obvious civic pride it would give the community, it would also be beneficial to school children. They nay feel encouraged to research more about the history of their county and perhaps submit their own ideas for the flag’s design.
Pennsylvania has ten, Maryland has 22 and all of Ohio’s 88 counties have their own flag. Only a handful of counties in West Virginia can make that claim; Barbour, Boone, Calhoun, Fayette, Marion, Morgan and Raleigh. Mon County is currently working on theirs and has invited the public to submit ideas/artwork.
I thought this may be of interest to citizens of Tucker County, as we here in Preston will soon celebrate our 200th birthday. Thank you for your time and consideration.
I am not associated with any club/civic group or political organization in Preston County.
