This poem was written by my mother in 1942 while her brothers and all American men and Women were serving in our Armed Services
UNSUNG HERO
As shrapnel burst about his face
The soldier reeled but held his place
He had thanked his God above
Who had let him fight on blood soaked sod
To fight for freedom was his goal
A soldier brave God rest his soul
For on that battlefield so far from home
He gave his life for freedoms roam
In countries that we read about
The tyrant fears the free mans shout
We bow to no one and accept no demands
Yet we are true to our Free Land
So to the fallen we give this cry
For Life and Liberty we must try
Please take him to that home on High
Where Unsung Heroes never Die
