My loyal reader Jeanette took pity on me and sent me some of my favorite candy for Christmas and I also received the recipe of the week from her monthly Alpha Delta Kappa newsletter. This is going to be a really gooooood one! I want to thank her for sending the main ingredient for me to try and that I am going to do.
I love to hear from my readers and it gives me joy to hear that some of them shared an upbringing like mine. It was a time in life when you are shaped into who you are going to be as a person and I appreciate every lesson I got, the praise and the punishment. Momma Said, “Spare the rod and spoil the child.”
I know there is difference in a spanking and a beating because I got a lot of the first. We never had to worry about abuse in our household. I know there are people out there that were not as lucky as me and my siblings growing up. I cannot condone an adult laying a hand on a child in anger or rage. We all have to learn from our mistakes and if a child does something wrong, it is not worth a beating. Communication goes a long way and that is something we do not have enough of these days.
Momma Said, “Get your nose out of your phone and pay attention to your children, sometimes all it takes is to reach out to them, to give them some of your time.” It could mean a world of difference in the long run, to stop them from spiraling down into a pit of despair and hopelessness. I miss the advice that I got from my Mom and Grandma, in hindsight if I would have listened to them more maybe I could have saved myself a lot of problems and pain in the path that I chose. Momma Said, “Hindsight is 20/20.”
