My little squirrel is having a quarrel with a blue jay over the peanuts. The jay is a glutton and tries to fight the squirrel. I like to feed all of them but the jay is a bully, and noisy to boot. Momma Said, “Don’t get too greedy or the bounty may dry up.” He had better stop pressing his luck.
My dog does the same thing with the cat. Not that she steals the food but she intimidates the cat until, eventually, the cat will walk away and then little “Fat Pants” gobbles everything down. Patience is a virtue, but Abby pushes the cat to her limits and she has it down to a science.
She is a good girl but she knows how to work the system. If I want to give her a bath, somehow she knows. If I want to brush her hair, somehow she knows. I have to catch her before she knows what is going on. She now thinks if she gets her hair brushed she is getting a bath. So after every brushing she runs and hides out in her dog house. Food is her only downfall.
I love my animals and I think they love me in their own way. I try to feed them good food and take care of their medical needs. I want them to have the best life they can. I wish more people would take that to heart. I hate seeing animals, wild or domesticated, treated poorly. People that can treat any animal inhumanely, have to have something broken inside them.
I hope everyone out there has it in them to call the authorities if they see animals being treated poorly. I have done so on a number of occasions and I would not hesitate to do it again. Momma Said, “Speak for those that cannot speak for themselves.” Try to make the world a better place to live for everyone and everything.
Doggy Breath Mint Treats
Ingredients:
2 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats, (optional whole wheat flour)
1/2 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
1/2 cup fresh mint, finely chopped
1 large egg (see tip below for dogs with allergies to chicken products)
1/4 cup of water, plus 1 teaspoon
3 tablespoons coconut oil (unrefined extra-virgin is best)
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 325° F
Add oats to a blender and pulse to a flour like consistency. In a large bowl whisk together diced parsley and mint, egg, water, and oil. Add oat flour and stir to combine. Knead dough a few times then turn out onto a lightly floured surface.
Using your hands or a rolling pin, flatten dough to about 1/8″ thick. Using a cookie cutter or knife cut out approximately 40 (1-inch mints) mints. Place mints about 1/4-inch apart on a parchment lined or non-stick cookie sheet. Bake 35-40 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
Allow mints to cool completely before serving then store in an airtight container.
Tip: For dogs with allergies to chicken products, substitute one large egg with 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce.
