When it comes to service personnel (waitresses, cashiers, etc) have the words Thank you and, You are welcome been stricken from their vocabulary? In all my life I have never seen such rude behavior from the service industry. I have been in a service capacity my entire work history, from bank teller, UPS delivery, waitress, floral industry and the newspaper and I never fail to greet my customer and thank them for their business. Momma Said, “A little common curiosity goes a long way.”
Now, if you are lucky enough to get someone to help with a purchase, they act as if it is an imposition to help you. If it were not for my business they would not have a job and they act as if it is beneath them to help you. And forget about a greeting or any type of salutation. If you can get them to talk to you at all is a small miracle. Momma Said, “What is so wrong with being nice.”
To me it seems as if it is an epidemic of stupid. How hard is it to say sorry if you bump into someone, or say thank you to someone holding the door for you. I was raised to respect my elders and have a semblance of what manners are. I don’t think it is that hard to be nice to someone who is being nice to you. The only problem these days is finding someone who is nice in the first place.
Sometimes I just want to grab one of these idiots by the shirt and shake some sense into them. I think they should have taken more trips out back of the wood shed when they were younger. Mom could have taught them the meaning of respect that is for sure. Even if you are having a bad day that doesn’t mean you have to be rude to people, especially if your job is to interact with these people in the first place.
