Momma Said

Why does the English language have to be so complicated?  If things were spelled the way they sound it would be a lot easier.

For instance, if sky was spelled ski like it sounds then ski would be spelled ske because that is the way it sounds.  We have ch in school that sounds like K and ch in chart sounds totally different.  Momma Said, “It is enough to make my brain catch on fire.”

We have two words spelled differently that sound the same and mean two different things, blue, blew; through, threw; know, no; knew, new and so on.  If you stop and think about it you could really go crazy.  I could fill up pages with stuff that is harder than it needs to be.  Who came up with all this stuff anyway?  The NOW Generation does not spell words correctly anymore anyway.  Abbreviations and spelling without vowels.

I have never tried to learn a language other than English.  I have heard it said that English is the hardest language to learn because of all the different spellings and meanings for words.  I can see why that would be so.  Just Simplify, Please.

It is hard for me to misspell a word on purpose.  To shorten or abbreviate a word just does not seem right.  I am just a generation behind the world.  Momma Said, “Am I wrong because that is the way I was taught or are kids today right because that is the way they learned to do things?”  Oh no, I think I smell smoke.
