If you do not own an iron skillet, Momma Said, “You should go out and purchase one.” The best brand is Wagner and I will warn you ahead of time, if you have not had one before, they are a little work in the beginning. You have to season it, which is very important. This keeps your food from sticking and seals the skillet.
You can find the directions online and once you have your skillet seasoned, you will find when you use it that your food tastes better. It is also a bit of work once you use it to clean it properly. It needs to be oiled before you put it away. But if you are like my brother, you will never put it away. That is all he uses to cook with and he is a darn good cook. Momma Said, “Teach your children to cook and they will never be hungry.”
You can make the best fried potatoes you have ever eaten in your life in an iron skillet also if you can find a bean pot you can make super brown beans. I even bake my corn bread in an iron skillet. Just be SUPER careful when using it that you don’t forget that the handle gets HOT!!!
If you take on this challenge, you will be rewarded with great tasting food that is much healthier for you. It is a way of cooking that has stood the test of time and still reigns supreme.
