I have an older friend who is going through something right now that is affecting hundreds of people all over the world. She joined a dating club and is being swindled by some piece of dirt. He has her eating right out of his hand and she can’t see what is going on. I have tried to talk to her and she gets mad at me. I don’t understand why she can’t see what is going on.
It started innocent enough, but when he was to come for a visit, he was conveniently called out of town on business. This “trip” was supposed to last for a week and it has been two months. He calls on a blocked number, has her hooked to the computer 24 hours a day and has not once been on Skype or Facetime so she can see him.
He is now “in the hospital” on his overseas trip and his return home has been postponed again. We have tried to talk to her and make her see that this is just a scam but she will not listen. He has already asked her to buy him a cell phone and I am sure that he will next need money to pay his doctor bills before he can come home.
Momma Said, “Wake up and smell the coffee. This guy does not exist!!!” She is already telling him she loves him and wants to get married. She is going to be in for a big disappointment but I can’t make her see it. Please, everyone out there, if this is happening to a friend or family member, please try to intervene and get them help. If it is too good to be true, it probably is.
I am hoping I can make her see the light at the end of the tunnel before her heart is broken for real but I think it is too late. I hope I can stop her from sending this piece of scum any money because that is what this is all about. I don’t see how people can be so heartless and hurt other people like this. And on the flip side of the coin, I don’t see how people can be so gullible and not see what is happening. How can you profess your undying love to a person you have never met? I ask that you keep an eye on your friends and loved ones and not let these vultures take advantage of their feelings.
CRISPY CHEESE AND BACON POTATOES
Crispy roasted potatoes, topped with melting cheese and plenty of crisp bacon are a great side dish for any meal.
Ingredients
- 1/2 pound bacon
- 3 extra large russet potatoes, peeled and chopped into 1/2″-3/4″ pieces, about 6 cups worth
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 3/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar or Mexican blend shredded cheeses
- 3 green onions, sliced thin
Instructions
- COOK THE BACON: Spread the bacon strips out across a large rimmed baking sheet pan and place on the middle rack of a COLD oven. Set the temperature to 400 degrees. Set a timer for 16 minutes and check the bacon. Remove it from the oven when it is as crisp or crunchy as you like. If you like your bacon crispy enough to crumble, you will probably want to cook it another minute past that.
- COOK THE POTATOES: While the bacon is cooking, peel and chop the potatoes. Transfer the bacon to a paper towel lined plate to drain. There should be 2-3 tablespoons of bacon grease left on the sheet pan . (If there is more than that, drain off a bit.) Put the potatoes on the pan and toss with tongs to thoroughly coat them in the bacon grease. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Spread the potatoes out in a single layer and bake for 20 minutes, stir well and bake an additional 20 minutes. Stir again, making sure that none of the potatoes are sticking to the tray. Bake another 15 minutes.
- Chop the bacon into small pieces. Remove the potatoes from the oven, stir again and sprinkle generously with shredded cheese and chopped bacon. Return the tray to the oven and bake an additional 2-3 minutes, until the cheese has melted. Top with sliced green onions just before serving. Enjoy!
