When you have a cat purring in you lap, how can you not be happy? That is an instant stress reliever. I think if everyone in the world owned a cat, it would be a more peaceful place to live. Petting a cat, hearing and feeling it purr have been scientifically shown to lower your blood pressure. Momma Said, “If you want to live longer, get a cat.”
I think it is a great idea to take animals into nursing homes and let the elders have the opportunity to love an animal. Some of them had animals and had to give them up when they went into assisted living situations. I know Gran loved her cat and talked to him as if he were a person. He would sit and listen to her and it seemed as if he understood every word she was saying to him.
I know there is a link that can be established if you work hard enough at it. I talk to my dogs and cats all the time and they listen well. I love them all and I think they can sense that and try to give it back. If you have ever had an emotional link with an animal you will know what I am talking about. I have lost a lot of animals to old age and I was attached to each of them. I have cried over every one I have lost and I am not ashamed to admit to it.
Momma Said, “If you want a friend for life, adopt a pet and love it as you would love yourself. There is no judgment from them, only unconditional love.”
