I have been reading the papers and hearing in the news of people doing the most horrendous things to children. For the life of me I can’t figure people out. How they can do some of these things period, not to mention to a little child, is beyond my comprehension. Momma Said, “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” I think the things these monsters do to little kids should be the same punishment they receive.
I don’t know if the whole world has gone insane, if they are on drugs or just plain don’t care. But how could you drown your own child, set them on fire or sexually abuse them? It just makes me sad to think one human can do that to another.
We, as a society, need to get our priorities straight. Too much mistrust, greed and hate in the world today are leading us all down the wrong path. I know there were wars, strife and famine in the world when I was a kid, but everything is spiraling out of control today with riots on the rise over even the smallest incident.
I wish there was more harmony in the world and all nations could get along better. We are destroying ourselves and it seems nobody can see the end is coming quickly. I don’t think we can pull out of another war and survive as a species. I hate to even turn the news on anymore it just makes me want to cry.
Easter is upon us and we can’t even calm ourselves at this time of year. I know everyone’s views are not the same, but why can’t we just let everyone have their own beliefs and not fight about it. Momma Said, “The animosity that is shown towards people who do not share others ideas and beliefs is a sad state of affairs.”
I do wish everyone a Happy Easter Season and want to take the time to say, “Please show someone a small act of kindness and one day it will come back to you in the most unexpected way.” I will leave you with my version of peace, a warm homemade cake so enjoy.
MOMMA’S VERSION OF SCRATCH CAKE
2 1/4 cups of flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons cocoa
1-1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs
Sift all dry ingredients with the exception of sugar. Cream the sugar and shortening together then carefully stir in milk and the flour mixture until all is well blended. Now…last step…add the vanilla and the eggs. Next, pour into 2 greased and floured cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Test the cake to make sure it is cooked through with a wooden toothpick. It should come out dry with none of the cake clinging to the sides.
ICING
1/2 cup butter
6 tablespoons cream
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 box of powdered sugar
Melt butter and add all the remaining ingredients. Beat until smooth, spread on slightly cooled cake. Expect it to be a bit runny. If you want more icing to be absorbed into the cake, poke holes all over the top of the cake with a toothpick and when the cake is slightly warmer. You can also spread the icing between the layers.
