Last week’s photo of the four school children from the Porterwood school went unidentified.
This week’s photo is of Charlotte Lawrence. The picture was taken at the Cosner School in Canaan Valley; taken when student pictures were taken in either 1949 or 1950.
Folks may well remember the Cosner School. It served as a community center of sorts for folks in Canaan. Local women would gather to make rugs, quilts and the like. When the school was going to be dismantled, someone had contacted Tucker County High School to see if one of the programs would like to have the looms from the old school.
It was determined that the high school did not have use for them at the time and it is unknown where those looms went. I remember seeing the school and well remember where it sat, I do not have a picture of the Cosner School, perhaps someone would be able to share one.
