This photo is labeled Fairfax Club at Fairfax Stone taken in 1925. I don’t know any of the gentlemen in the photo but it is really a nice picture and notice the cars in the background. According to records, the Fairfax Stone has been replaced five times: 1746, 1859, 1885, 1910, and 1957. The 1910 Stone was actually concrete; all the others were made of stone. The Stone marks the West Virginia and Maryland divide and it is the headwaters of the North Branch of the Potomac River. The marker in the picture is obviously the 1910 Stone. On one side of the stone was: FFX 1746 and on the other side 1910. This stone was erected by the Joint Boundary Commission of Maryland and West Virginia.
