This is a photo of the Stone Motel in Davis and a photo of the owners/operators Gilbert and Bessie Blizzard Smith. They started off with 9 sandstone cottages in 1949; this was the first motel in Davis. The roof tops of some of the cottages can be seen. Also, there is a Texaco sign to the right of the word Motel. This would be the Golightly Texaco Station owned by Charles Golightly. Gilbert was the son of Solomon and Alice Teter Smith. He graduated from the Mountain State Business College. Gilbert taught three terms of school, was a clerk/manager of several company stores including the B & L Company Stores of Benbush and Kempton, and served twenty two years as a postmaster. Gilbert also owned farmland where the town of Jenningston once thrived. Ideas or comments contact Tim Turner (304) 478-3389.
