Turner’s Tidbits

This is a photo of Parsons after the flood of 1985. Starting on the immediate right, the building being worked on, was the NAPA Auto Parts Building that Craig Wilfong had. It had two sections and the left section was the cable company. After the flood, John Gribble and Eddie McDonald owned it, the second story was added. Next was an empty lot where Jim English and then Rich Lewis displayed grave monuments. Next is Long’s store. Next is an empty lot that was once the Lambert’s Department Store, Joanne Thompson had it. It was so damaged that it had to be torn down. Next is Ellie’s. Next Ronnie and Connie Castle had a video shop. The next sign reads Home Decorating Center owned by Adkins. The next store is the H-P Store owned by Ken and Gerri Teagarden, after the flood they opened the K-G Store in the same location. Next were two other stores that were vacant, formerly housing The Old Town Shoppe and Rennix’s Grocery. Next was the old bank building, Worlie and Isabelle Simmons Barber and Beauty Shop may have been in the building during the flood. The building after the courthouse was Knicley’s; Dottie had a craft shop and Warren had a carpet store there. Then Mountain Valley Bank would be on the end. On the hill from the stop light would have been the home of Rosie Lipscomb. The Methodist Church parking lot is there now. On the left is an Exxon Gas sign; the station was called the Bishoff’s Auto Center and it was owned by Bob and Jeanette Bishoff. Ideas, comments, photos to share contact Tim Turner (304) 478-3389.
