Last week’s photo of the lady will be addressed in the next article. This photo is of the Thomas Depot. The original Depot was built around 1885 and was later destroyed by fire.
It was replaced by a new station in 1901 that was described as “the grandest railway station between Cumberland, MD and Elkins, WV”. The new Depot was partially destroyed by the tornado of June 23, 1944. Both Depot buildings were constructed by the West Virginia Central & Pittsburg Railway, which was owned by Senator Henry Gassaway Davis. In 1902, the WV C&P sold out to the Western Maryland Railway.
