Last week’s photo was of Harry and Iva Cosner Hinkle. Harry was the son of Charlie and Mary Bennett Hinkle. At one time, Charlie had a blacksmith shop in Harman; Harry helped him with horse shoeing.
The building had been torn down around the time of WWII. The shop stood in the vicinity of the Pavilion where square dances were held. Iva was the daughter of Commadore Porter and Eliza Jane Long Cosner and she was the grand-daughter of Solomon and Catherine Shell Cosner. Solomon and his family were the first permanent settlers in Canaan Valley. Harry and Iva had four children: Harry, Jr. (married Barbara Helmick); Richard (married Cathy Helmick); Betty (married Pete Michael); Mary (married Frank Osretkar). The Hinkle’s lived in Hambleton. Harry operated a bulldozer on strip mines in the Davis area. This week’s photo is possible of an Evans Family. Ideas or comments contact Tim Turner (304) 478-3389.
