These are photos of hay being gathered and put into hay stacks. The grass would be cut by hand before machinery and then large piles gathered into a stack. The pitch fork would be used to stack the hay as high as needed. Once all the hay in the field was gathered up in stacks, it would be allowed to dry out. The hay would then be pulled by horse to the barn where it would be pitched inside the hay loft. This is just one of the many joys of living on the farm where the work was hard but rewarding.
