Tucker Woman Recalls Part Women Spies Played in Civil War.  This is the first of a three part installment that relays some important Tucker County History. This information was relayed in 1935 by Sarah L. Day, who was 84 at the time she gave this history. History  that was made during the Civil War but never recorded at the time. Sarah had a good memory of many events including: the shooting of Lincoln, the shooting of Garfield and the Battle of Corrick’s Ford. She attended the local schools until the War broke out and the schools were then closed. Sarah was the oldest child of William and Elizabeth Jordan; having been born Christmas Day 1851. Sarah had nine brothers and sisters. She was married to Wesley C. Day January 13, 1872 in Circleville. They had five daughters: Getty, Carrie ( I W Hershey), Vernie (Andy Mitchell), Esta (William Bilby), and Mertie. Sarah lived in Hambleton  for thirty five years.  She was the grandmother of Bill, Guy, Oran, and Mildred Bilby.  Ideas or comments contact Tim Turner (304) 478-3389.
