Last Chance To Apply For Spring Semester Enrollment
After being recognized last year as the 21st fastest-growing community college nationwide, Eastern WV Community and Technical College achieved a record high enrollment again this fall.
“Our student headcount has grown 7.7-percent over last year,” said Charles ‘Chuck’ Terrell, Eastern’s president, citing a WV Higher Education Policy Commission announcement, and noting that college enrollment declined nationwide by 1.5-percent.
“Eastern’s growth is contributed to by the outstanding faculty and staff who are committed to student success. New programs and training opportunities are available because of collaboration from secondary education, business, industry, economic development and community leaders.
“A common goal shared within the region,” Terrell noted, “is working together to provide educational opportunities.”
Eastern looks to build on that momentum when the College reopens after the holiday break.
“Registration for spring semester moves into full throttle January 2, 2014, and will remain open through Friday, January 10,” said Monica Wilson, Eastern’s associate director of admissions.
“This time the calendar gives everybody more than a full week after the New Year to select their classes, arrange for financial aid and get oriented,” she said. “Then, spring semester classes begin Monday, January 13.”
Evening & Online Classes
“Many of our students have jobs, children, and busy schedules, so we offer a wide selection of evening and online classes for both full-time and part-time learners,” Wilson noted, “including certificate and associate degree programs in some of today’s most in-demand fields, such as computer applications, information technology, business and accounting.”
The College offers a full selection of daytime classes as well, she said, and also has programs in wind energy technology, automotive technology, early childhood and elementary education. Students may also choose courses to prepare for transfer to a bachelor degree program.
“Our respected and popular nursing program is now accepting applications for fall semester 2014,” Wilson said. “Applicants can find special program requirements and deadlines on our website, www.easternwv.edu.”
Anyone who has graduated from high school or completed GED requirements may register as a regular student under Eastern’s open admissions policy. The College encourages interested individuals to complete the free application and start the enrollment process.

Financial Aid Packages
More than two-thirds of all students receive some type of financial aid at Eastern, noted Amanda Sites, the College’s director of financial aid. In the last three years, the total amount of aid disbursed has doubled.
“We work with every student as an individual,” she emphasized, “to put together the best financial aid package available to him or her.
“Many people may have thought that there was no way they could ever afford to go to college, and usually, working together, we can find a way to make it happen,” Sites said.
