(Moorefield, WV) – Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College (Eastern) today announced a Welding program beginning this fall. Classes begin September 5, 2017.
Eastern’s welding program is a unique sponsored learning opportunity to help meet students’ educational goals. The program was developed in conjunction with Eastern’s Workforce Education division to give students both the classroom instruction and practical hands-on training needed to enter the workforce as an entry-level welder.
The program combines practical hands-on training and education. The program can also serve as the foundation for advanced welding training.
In this program, students learn to:
- Study blueprints, sketches, or specifications
- Calculate dimensions to be welded
- Inspect structures or materials to be welded
- Ignite torches or start power supplies
- Monitor the welding process to avoid overheating
- Maintain equipment and machinery
“We’re offering this program as a result of local employers’ demand for skilled welders,” said Dennis McGann, Eastern welding instructor. “Job prospects for those who complete the program are excellent. Nationwide prospects for skilled welders are also favorable. In fact, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, “skilled welders with up-to-date training should have good job opportunities.”
Tuition for the 75-hour training program and supplies is $2,195 and the program will accommodate all skill levels. Funds to pay for the program may be available for those who qualify.
