Ian Nichols Receives Scholarship

Ian Nichols, a Tucker County High School senior, has been awarded $1,000 through EQT Students of Excellence Scholarship Program.

EQT is an energy company with as emphasis on Appalachian – area natural gas production, gathering, transmission and distribution.

EQT supports West Virginia students by sponsoring the Students of Excellence Program, offering $1,000 scholarships for one student in every West Virginia county, five at-large scholarships scattered throughout the state and six complete four-year scholarships, each up to $18,000 per year, to students interested in studying engineering, geology, computer science/information technology, energy or land management and environmental or safety science.

Scholarships are awarded to students who have excelled in the classroom, but who also have contributed their time and talents to their schools and communities.

Ian Nichols has ben accepted to West Virginia University ad plans to study petroleum engineering.

Scholarship winners, along with their families, were honored at a reception on Dec. 14 at the State Capitol Complex with Governor Earl Ray Tomblin, and representatives of EQT Corporation and The State Journal.
