Little Red Riding Hood will arrive at Tucker County High School on December 6 as TCHS Theatre Company presents its first performance of Little Red Riding Hood and the Power Mutants.
Producer Jay Smith explained the play, written by Ed Monk, is a parody of Little Red Riding Hood and superhero movies wrapped into one. Kaylee Nedrow, who portrays Little Red Riding Hood, described her character as “prim and proper and very dramatic.” Newcomer Ross Johnson plays the part of The Big Bad Wolf, President and Founder of Oswald’s School for Wolves. The play also features a “strange and mysterious group of mutant superheros with rather silly powers,” who come to the aid of Little Red as she delivers goodies from her “catering service” to Grandma’s house.
Senior Bayli Helmick, who serves as Director for the first time, said, “I think this play will be our best one ever because of the cast and the people who helped put this production together. This is the best group I’ve ever dealt with, and I owe all the credit to them.” She explained, “It’s been very stressful but the cast seems to have worked through all of the challenges thus far. I hope everyone will come out and support the cast, because the play is hilarious, and the cast has worked nonstop.”
Nedrow, also serving as Assistant Director, stated she is quite honored to be chosen for the position. “It’s nice to have a taste of the technical side of the show. I learned there’s a lot more going on than my first impression.” She explained the play has a few surprises involving the audience, which she believes everyone will enjoy. “I think this year, as a whole, the cast has a good chemistry both on and off stage, and it will show during the performance.”
Smith said he encourages everyone to come out and see the performance, which is appropriate for all ages. “The cast has put in a tremendous amount of work, and IT IS FUNNY! After previewing it several times I’m still laughing.” Performances will be held at 7 p.m., Saturday, December 6 and 13, and 2 p.m., Sunday, December 7 and 14 in the Tucker County High School Auditorium. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for students and $3 for children 10 and under.
