Additionally, the speakers are all local, so students will have exposure to some of the organizations and resources available in our community.

TCHS School Play
By Paige Lantz
The After School Theatre’s first production of the 2019-2020 school year will be Circumvention. The play will be November 16 at 7 p.m. in the TCHS auditorium. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
Director Cathy Chambers said that Circumvention, written by Anton Dudley, was selected after student director Lindsey Hull recommended it. The play met TCHS’s criteria: a minimal set requirement, a small cast, and a more female to male ratio.
The acting cast consists of Olivia Sigley in the lead role as Anna, Erin Nestor as Jenn, Tanner Gatto as Paul and Inuit 2, Tessa Jolly as Eliot, student director Lindsey Hull as Alethea, Allicen Hanlin as Carla and Inuit 2, Alisha Bennett as Kim, Samantha Chambers as Kris, Cheyenne Roth as Dr. Stariler, and Corey Price as Max.
According to Director Chambers, Circumvention is an adventure tale of a junior, Anna, craving to see the ocean, but terrified of drowning in the depths of water and high school. Connecting the lives of friends, strangers, and mermaids, an underwater camera takes us on a journey across the world from beaches to the Arctic north.
The After School Theatre will use Circumvention for their regional theatre competition. The competition is January 20, 2020 at Wesleyan College in Buckhannon. If they place in states, there will be a school showing of the production.
When asked about the role of theatre in a student’s life, Director Chambers said, “The theater isn’t just where a person acts; it’s a place to learn life lessons. Actors aren’t the only people welcome; people that love tech, art, design, building things, and tearing things apart are all welcome.”
TCHS Students of the Week
By Jamen Dudley
According to Aristotle, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.” This quote is perfect for the TCHS Students of the Week. These students continually work for the grades that they receive and work to keep their behavior top notch. They are our future leaders.
Three students who have gone above and beyond academic or behavior expectations this week are Mary Carr, Logan Husk, and Riley Rohrbaugh.
Mary Carr, a senior, was selected because of her hard work and value of academics, her positive attitude, and her leadership.
Freshman Logan Husk was chosen for taking the initiative and assisting a fellow classmate by looking out for his safety and health.
Freshman Riley Rohrbaugh was selected because of her great attitude and her kindness to others.
These students are to be commended for exemplifying the principles of Mountain Lion CARE: courtesy, attitude, responsibility, and engagement.
