TCHS Students of the Week
By Erin Cassidy
Jim Rohn’s quote, “Successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do. Don’t wish it were easier; wish you were better.” This quote is especially true when it comes to Tucker County High School Students of the Week. These students are to be honored not only for their academic achievement, but also honored for being students who model character and citizenship. Each week teachers nominate students who have gone above and beyond academic and behavioral expectations. The students this week who have met these expectations are Trenton Wilfong, Holden Young, Darragh Pennington, and Karlie Thompson.
Trenton Wilfong is a freshman and was nominated for always being an excellent role model for his fellow peers.
Holden Young, a senior, was selected for demonstrating good sportsmanship.
Freshman Darragh Pennington was chosen for her positive outlook and her respectful attitude towards others.
Karlie Thompson, a sophomore, was nominated for always being considerate, polite, and respectful of both her peers and her teachers.
These students are to be commended for exemplifying the principles of Mountain Lion CARE: courtesy, attitude, responsibility, and engagement.

TCHS Mountain Lion’s Robotics Team
By Lilly Plumley
Recently, the TCHS Mountain Lion’s Robotics Team attended the Maryland Mountain Regional State Qualifying Robotics Tournament at Garrett Community College in McHenry, Maryland placing 13th out of 25 teams.
Eight team members participated in the competition:
Emma Wamsley, Alaira Hudson, Morgan Cowgill, Raina Burton, Sadie Palmer, Xzandra Ashbey, Shelby Gooden, and Lilly Plumley
Contestants’ goals for the tournament were to successfully and strategically take blocks from one side of the arena to the other while also going under the bridge of the team’s color. Next, the robot’s task was to stack the blocks onto the building platform. The more blocks that were stacked by the end of the round, the more points the team received. The tasks were challenging as the rounds were only two minutes and thirty seconds.
This was the second tournament in which the robotics team participated. At the first tournament at Fairmont University, the team placed 12th out of 20 teams and received a trophy for having the best design.
The team only has been in existence for two years with most of the robotics members joining a couple of months ago. Team members are proud of their accomplishments and enjoy being on the TCHS Mountain Lion’s Robotics Team. Morgan Cowgill, a member of the robotics team, stated that joining the robotics team has helped make friends throughout West Virginia as well as helped her with team-working skills and problem-solving skills.
