HAMBLETON – Students, staff, administration, parents and Tucker County residents once again find themselves receiving accolades for their hard work. Niche ranks the best public high schools based on dozens of key statistics including 4.6 million opinions from 280,000 students and parents. Of the high schools in West Virginia, Niche ranks Tucker County High School as 11.
Tucker County High School followed some well-known AAA schools including University, Morgantown, Fairmont Senior, Bridgeport, George Washington, Hurricane, South Charleston, Ripley, Williamstown and Westside High schools. Dr. Eddie Campbell, superintendent of Tucker County Schools, said he was pleased with the ranking.
“Niche ranks schools based on criteria and data they collect,” Campbell said. “We are excited about our raking. The schools close to us have long been considered some of the best in the state based on Wes Test scores and AP classes. We fell just behind these schools to come in at number 11.”
Niche.com lists the high schools from across West Virginia and the United States. Tucker County High School receive A ratings in health and safety and sports and fitness; B ratings in academics, teachers, extracurricular and school activities; and a C rating in student culture and diversity.
Campbell said he is proud of the students and teachers at Tucker County High School and all of their hard work.
“In just a few short years, the hard work of those at Tucker County High School is really paying off,” Campbell said. “From my stand point, I feel there is a tremendous comfort level for both the students and their parents. There are no safety concerns at Tucker County High School. There are no fights and no weapon violations at the school. This creates an environment where students can concentrate on learning. It also brings comfort to the patents.”
Campbell said Tucker County High School is working with state policies to create career clusters.
“This gives the students an opportunity to look at possible careers and target certain courses,” Campbell said. “Our athletic programs are also seeing great success with participation in state tournaments and state recognitions.”
Tucker County High School also features a Farm to School Program that is a premier model program in the state.
“Our Vo-Ag program works with our ProStart Program growing and cooking that food for use in our school,” Campbell said. “We are seeing great successes and it is a source of great pride.
