McHenry, MD – Athletics is all about team effort – which is exactly the strategy Garrett College will be using in the naming of its new athletics center.
The renovated 700 Building, a multi-million-dollar effort to expand the College’s athletics facilities, will include a distinctive archway leading into the center. The College and Garrett College Foundation staff are working to identify a half-dozen benefactors who can share in the naming, with each donor’s name or business logo to be emblazoned on the archway.
Dr. Richard Midcap, Garrett College’s president, said the building naming strategy would bring the total campaign gifts raised to just over $1 million.
“We’re working to raise $300,000 via the building naming, but we know that’s a huge request,” said Midcap. “This naming strategy allows more donors to participate in the campaign, and gives us the best opportunity to reach the million-dollar goal.”
Garrett College Foundation Executive Director Cherie Krug said donors have the option to stretch their $50,000 building gift over five years. She noted the archway concept, designed by Garrett College Director of Marketing Chad Yoder, will give donors “a classic, high-visibility connection with our athletics program and our student athletes.”
The College and Foundation have jointly acquired gifts and pledges for 20 of the 21 major namings associated with the capital campaign.
“The ongoing support Garrett College receives from our community is truly incredible,” said Midcap. “We’ve run three capital campaigns – including one during COVID – that have raised nearly $7 million in three very diverse fields: STEM, performing arts, and now athletics.
“This is really the climax of these campaigns – obtaining a building naming for the athletics center,” added Midcap. “I’m confident we will identify donors who want to help, and find the archway strategy an attractive and high-profile way to do so.”
Yoder has created a campaign card specifically promoting the archway concept. The card’s front features a photo showing how the building entrance will look with the archway leading into the center. The back includes a close-up view of the archway, with logos from other campaign donors used on the archway for illustrative purposes.
