The Tucker Valley Elementary School, fourth grade class, of Christine Ward, recently gave a presentation on Native American Indians. The class made models of how the different Indian tribes lived, tools they used and some of the food they ate.
Students were given a Native American Project Rubric and a Project Information sheet about their Native American group.
Ward said, “The students worked on their Native American Project over a two week period.” They also had time to research in the computer lab. Then, as a group, they came up with their presentation.
Students and the tribes they researched are as follows:
Great Plains : Autumn Russell, Jordan Polomski, Dominick Mullenax, Andrew Steinman.
Great Basin: Jasmine Jones, Briar Heckler, Zack Mitchell, Allicen Hanlin.
Pacific Northwest: Brandy Tripplett, Riley Rorhbaugh, Alisha Bennett, Shayla Mason.
Northern Woodland: Levi Pennington, Nick Lawrence, Nick Nelson, Hunter Shahan.
Southwestern: Carley Dumire, Vanessa Shaffer, Jakob Barrett, Olivia Sigley.
Models of kachina dolls were constructed along with some types of food.
Some other models explained how plank houses were constructed and what a pot latch dinner was. It was a celebration for any life changing event, marriages, births and deaths.
