GLENVILLE – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team traveled to Glenville State College on Monday December 12th to participate in the Class “A” IOGA Tournament. The Mt. Lions faced off against Gilmer County in their first contest. Tucker County erased a 12 point deficit early in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 52, but the Mt. Lions could not sustain the offense as they fell in the contest 81-67.
The first quarter was back and forth with the Titans leading by 3 points after one 18-15. Gilmer County then pulled away from the Mt. Lions in the second period as they outscored Tucker County 25-16 to make the halftime score 43-31 Gilmer County.
Tucker County came out in the third quarter and put together a big run to get back into the contest as they outpaced the Titans 18-8 in the third to put them within 2 points of Gilmer County after three 51-49. The Mt. Lions would tie the game early in the fourth quarter at 52-52, but a 9-0 run pushed the Titans back ahead. Gilmer County held that advantage to rest of the game and the Titans made their foul shots down the stretch to pick up the victory over Tucker County 81-67.
Josh Kincaid led Tucker County with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Ethan Crosten had 20 points, 5 assists and Wesley Snyder added 11 points for the Mt. Lions. Corrick Ambrose collected 10 points for Tucker County in the loss and Gilmer County was led in scoring by Trey Shuff with 27 points.
GLENVILLE – The Mt. Lion returned to Glenville State College on Thursday December 15th for the Consolation game against St. Marys in the Class “A” IOGA Tournament. Tucker County led the contest throughout, but they could not hold onto the victory as St. Marys got the win in overtime 68-66.
Tucker County started the game with an early lead and that continued through the first quarter as the Mt. Lions led 13-7 after one quarter. Tucker County outscored the Blue Devils 16-15 in the second quarter to take a 29-22 lead into the locker room at the half.
St. Marys would fight back late in the third quarter with a run to outscore Tucker County in the third quarter 18-12 to cut the Mt. Lions lead to 41-40 at the end of three. Tucker County then built a 12 point lead in the fourth quarter, but the Blue Devils never quit and rallied back to tie the game on a late 3 pointer with 3 seconds left to force overtime. In overtime the game went back and forth, but Tucker County was whistled for a foul with 7 seconds left to give St. Marys 2 foul shots. The Blue Devils made the foul shots to give them a 2 point lead. Ethan Crosten then raced to the other end of the court, but the layup rolled off the rim as time expired and Tucker County fell in overtime, in a thriller 68-66.
Ethan Crosten led Tucker County with 21 points and 6 steals. Wesley Snyder had 15 points, 4 assists and Josh Kincaid added 12 points, 5 rebounds for Tucker County. Jakob Cousin collected 10 points and 10 rebounds in the loss for the Mt. Lions. St. Marys was led by Sam Kincaid with a 36 points.
