Mountain State Girls on the Run will be returning to the Parsons Fire Hall on Saturday, December 6 for the Jingle Bell 5k race. The start time for this year’s event is 11am, with pre-race activities for the runners beginning at 9:30am.
Anyone who wants to register to run, walk, or skip to the finish line is welcome to do so. The race caps the fall program for our region’s Girls on the Run council. Mountain State GOTR girls range from 8 to 13 years old who have been training since September. The race is organized to recognize and celebrate their efforts. Happy hair and happy smiles abound on Girls on the Run race day.
The Girls on the Run mission is to “inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.” Girls on the Run also provides volunteer opportunities for the community. On race day, volunteers help set up, direct traffic, serve as running buddies, and staff pre-race activities.
It is always a lively scene at the start line as the girls anticipate the course with their friends. The race starts and finishes at the fire hall. Members of the community are highly encouraged to come out to watch and cheer on the runners along the route. Race day registration begins at 9:30 on race day.
