The Davis-Thomas Bears faced challenges in back-to-back road games, falling to Romney and West Preston in middle school basketball action. The Bears couldn’t overcome early deficits, losing both contests.
The Bears took on a tough opponent in Romney on December 5th, where they were unable to keep up with the pace of the game. The junior varsity squad had a rough start, with a scoreless first quarter, falling 13-0, and continued to struggle to find the basket throughout, eventually losing 27-3. In the game, B. White scored 2 points, while D. Novallis added 1.
In the varsity contest, Davis-Thomas was also outmatched. They were down 14-4 after the first quarter and trailed 28-10 by halftime. Despite a hard-fought effort, the Bears couldn’t recover, ending the game with a 57-24 loss. K. Kerr led the team with 9 points, followed by E. O’Brien with 8, N. Luzier with 2, and J. Dearborn with 2.
The Bears also faced another obstacle on the road at West Preston on Thursday, December 11th, and while their performance improved, they still were unable to defeat the host team. The junior varsity trailed 5-2 after the first quarter and down 20-9 at the half. West Preston expanded their lead in each subsequent quarter, and Davis-Thomas fell short, losing 41-18. E. Blake, B. White, and N. White all contributed 4 points each.
In the varsity game, Davis-Thomas showed a spark of energy after an early 16-3 deficit in the first quarter, but the Bears struggled to keep up with West Preston’s offense. Despite scoring 16 points in the second quarter, the Bears were outscored in the final two periods and fell 55-32. K. Kerr led the way with 8 points, followed closely by E. O’Brien with 7 and N. Luzier with 7. W. Huffman also chipped in 6 points.
The Bears will look to bounce back as they take on South Preston on December 15th.
