PHILIPPI, WV – Broaddus Hospital’s biggest annual fundraising event will feature a new venue for its annual tournament slated for Friday, May 30. Being held at Canaan Valley Resort in Tucker County, the event will provide the opportunity for both golf and skeet shooting.

“Now in its fifth year, we felt it was an opportunity to change the event,” said Broaddus CEO Jeff Powelson. “The new location and option for skeet shooting add an alluring alternative for our regular patrons and newcomers alike.”

Each year Broaddus Hospital and the Davis Health System Foundation organize this fundraiser which provides support for programs, technologies and other innovative upgrades for patients of the hospital and Mansfield Place, a 60-bed long term care facility. Last year’s tournament raised over $5,000.

Golf registration begins at 9 AM at the Canaan Valley Resort Golf Course. The fee is $90 per golfer which includes greens fees for 18-holes, a cart and a boxed lunch in a commemorative cooler sponsored by Radiological Physician Associates, Inc. Golfers tee off at 10 AM. A picnic buffet, made possible by Mace’s Pharmacy of Barbour County, is planned immediately following the tournament.

Golfers will compete for first and second place prizes. In addition, prizes will be awarded for the Longest Drive, Longest Putt, and Closest to the Pin.

The sporting clays tournament will be held at the newly completed five-stand target field which is located across from the resort’s main ski lodge. Registration begins there at 8 AM and shooting begins at 9 AM. It includes two rounds of shooting led by competitive shooter Larry Beard. The cost is $90 and includes gun, shells, eye and ear protection and a boxed lunch. A picnic buffet following the sporting clay’s tournament is planned as well. A hunting license is not required for the trap range. Prizes for the top two winning individuals and for the last place person will be awarded.

Advance registration for this activity is required and can be made by calling the Foundation at 304.630.3043.

All tournament participants receive a scenic chairlift ride.

“This year’s proceeds will be used to expand outdoor activities at Mansfield Place,” said Powelson. “The residents and caregivers benefit in so many ways from the fundraiser. We’re very appreciative of the support of our sponsors and participants.”

Benefit Assistance Corp. of Charleston, WV is providing corporate sponsorship and the DHS Foundation is assisting through organizational support. Others can join the effort through sponsorships including team, hole, and corporate donation.

For more information, to pre-register or to become a sponsor of the tournament, contact Jennie Raines at 304.630-3043 or email, foundation@davishealthsystem.org.
