The fall sports season is officially underway in Tucker County, as practices began August 4 for football, volleyball, and cross country. With preseason workouts in full swing, student athletes are gearing up for what promises to be an exciting season of Mt. Lion athletics.

The football team is set to see its first game action of the year with a scrimmage scheduled for Friday, August 15, at Philip Barbour High School, kicking off at 6:00 p.m. This matchup will provide coaches and fans an early look at this year’s squad as they prepare for the regular season.

Meanwhile, the volleyball team has a busy week ahead with two scrimmages on the calendar. They’ll travel to Preston County High on Monday, August 11 for a 6:00 p.m. start, before returning home to face Elkins High School later in the week, also with a 6:00 p.m. serve time. These scrimmages offer valuable time on the court as the team builds chemistry and sharpens its play.

The cross-country team will have to wait just a bit longer before they get their first competitive miles in. Their season begins with a meet hosted by St. Mary’s High School on Saturday, August 23 at 9:00 a.m. Expectations are high for the squad, which is eager to test its summer training against regional competition.

As the days grow shorter and cooler weather approaches, Tucker County fans can look forward to another spirited season of Mt. Lion sports. Whether under the Friday night lights, in the gym, or along the running trails, Tucker County athletes are ready to represent their school with pride.
