DUMORE – #4 Tucker County placed three girls in double figures to post a 46-34 road win over #6 Pocahontas County last Monday Feb 10th.
The game went back and forth early as both teams scored 12 points in the opening quarter that left the game tied after one 12-12. In the second quarter the Lady Mt. Lions outscored the home team 11-8 to lead at the half 23-20.
Tucker County stepped up the defense in the third as they held the Lady Warriors to just 5 points as they increased their lead to 32-25 after three quarters. The fourth quarter would belong to the Lady Mt. Lions as they created turnovers and outpaced Pocahontas County 14-11 in the final quarter to pick up the impressive 46-34 road win.
Elizabeth Nichols led Tucker County with 11 points, 4 rebounds and Madison Mullenax finished with 10 points, 9 rebounds. Bekah Simmons added 10 points, 4 rebounds and Stephanie Betler had 9 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists. Savannah Ambrose added 6 blocks and 5 assists. Tucker County JV team got the win in the first contest 60-48.
MOOREFIELD – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Moorefield on Feb 11th and used a strong defensive game to pick up a blowout win 68-24.
Tucker County scored 16 points in the first quarter and held the Lady Yellowjackets to 10 points to take the early lead after one 16-10. The Lady Mt. Lions would then blow the game open in the second quarter as they outscored Moorefield 20-5 to take a 36-15 lead at the half.
In the third quarter the defense would continue for Tucker County as they held Moorefield to just 4 points and scored 18 points to extend the lead to 54-19 at the end of three. The Lady Mt. Lions reserve players played the final quarter and outpaced Moorefield 14-5 to make the final score 68-24 Tucker County.
Stephanie Betler and Madison Mullenax led the Lady Mt. Lions with 12 points each. Betler added 5 rebounds, 4 assists and Mullenax had 5 rebounds. Aiyana Kachmarek scored 8 points and Madison Reall led Tucker County in rebounding with 7 boards. Mariah Bowley finished the game with 5 assists for Tucker County in the win. The Lady Mt. Lions JV team picked up the win also 64-17.
Tucker County(12-4) was scheduled to host Notre Dame on Monday Feb 17th then travel to Philip-Barbour on Tuesday Feb 18th. They will host Southern, MD on Thursday at 7:30pm and then they will wrap up the regular season with a home game against East Hardy on Friday at 7:30pm. The Lady Mt.
