Rylee White meets the ball at the net.

The Tucker County Lady Mountain Lions gave it everything they had in the opening round of regional volleyball play Thursday night at East Hardy but fell just short in a five-set thriller against the Union Tigers.

Union came out strong, taking the first two sets, but Tucker County refused to go down without a fight. The Lady Mt. Lions roared back to win sets three and four, forcing a decisive fifth set that had fans on the edge of their seats. In the final frame, both teams traded points in a tense back-and-forth battle before Union narrowly pulled out the win, 16-14, to take the match 3-2.

The Lady Mt. Lions will look to keep their postseason hopes alive as regional play continues Monday, November 3, in the double-elimination loser’s bracket. Tucker County will once again face Union at 6:00 p.m., with the winner advancing to play East Hardy at 7:30 p.m., both matches hosted at East Hardy High School.

With their season on the line, expect Tucker County to bring the same fight and energy that nearly carried them to victory in their opening-round showdown.
