HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team played their first home game of the season on Wednesday December 7th against PVC Rival Pocahontas County. The Lady Mt. Lions exploded for a 22-4 run after a 12-12 tie to break the game open to get the home win 67-28.
The game started with the Lady Warriors taking an early 5-0 lead, but Tucker County fought back to lead after the first quarter 16-12. In the second quarter the Lady Mt. Lions extended their advantage as they held Pocahontas County to just 4 points in the quarter to give them a 34-16 lead at the half.
Tucker County continued the defense in the third as they outpaced the Lady Warriors 17-7 in the third to extend their advantage to 51-23 after three. Pocahontas County struggled to score in the fourth as they managed just 5 points and the Lady Mt. Lions scored 16 points to cruise to victory by the final score of 67-28.
Sydney Nestor led the way for Tucker County with 15 points, 6 rebounds and Sydney Moore added 11 points, 5 rebounds. Dominique Meadows added 8 points, 7 rebounds and Terra Kuhn chipped in with 8 points also. McKinley Murphy and Jenna Walker contributed 7 points each for Tucker County in the win. The Lady Mt. Lions JV team got the win in their game 48-33.
HAMBLETON – The Lady Mt. Lions hosted “AAA” Martinsburg on Saturday December 10th. Tucker County held a 1 point advantage at halftime, but the Lady Mt. Lions were held to just 21 points in the second half and the Lady Bulldogs picked up the road victory 61-46.
Both teams struggled to score in the first quarter as visiting Martinsburg held a slim 11-10 lead after one quarter of play. In the second quarter the offense picked up for Tucker County as they held a 6 point lead late in the quarter. The Lady Bulldogs fought back in the last minute of the second quarter to cut the Lady Mt. Lions lead to 1 point at the half 25-24.
Martinsburg came out in the third quarter motivated as they outpaced Tucker County 19-9 in the third quarter to take the lead after three 43-34. In the fourth quarter the Lady Mt. Lions fought back, but they could not get any closer than 4 points as the Lady Bulldogs pulled away for the win 61-46.
Sydney Nestor led the way for Tucker County with 19 points, 4 steals and Terra Kuhn had 10 points, 8 rebounds. Sydney Moore added 9 points, 10 rebounds and Elizabeth Nichols collected 10 rebounds in the loss for Tucker County. The Tucker County JV team pick up the win in the first game 48-24.
The Lady Mt. Lions(2-1) were scheduled to play Gilmer County on Monday December 12th at Glenville State College. Tucker County will host Moorefield tonight and then they will play at Glenville State on Saturday at 12pm if they win Monday. If they lose on Monday they will play at Glenville State on Thursday at 4pm in the consolation game against St. Marys or Wheeling Central.
