LADY MT. LIONS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM QUALIFIES FOR STATE MEET

Tucker County Girls’ Cross-Country team finished 2nd in the Regional Championship on Oct. 22nd to qualify for the State Championship Meet on Oct. 31st. CAMP KIDD – The Class “A” and Class “AA” Region 2 Cross-Country Championship Meets were moved from Doddridge County to Tucker County after the Department of Education map showed Doddridge County in the red.  The red status forced the decision by the WVSSAC because no sporting events can be hosted by red counties.  The event took place on Thursday October 22nd at Camp Kidd.  The Class “A” Girls’ race was first at 12pm then the Class “A” Boys’ race started at 12:45pm.  The Class “AA” Girls’ race got started at 4pm at Camp Kidd followed by the Class “AA” Boys’ race at 4:45pm.

 

In the Class “A” Girls’ race the Doddridge County Girls’ took the team win as they finished 1st in the region.  Tucker County took home a 2nd place finish to qualify the Lady Mt. Lions for the State Meet at Cabell Midland on Saturday October 31st.  The top runner in the race was Doddridge County’s Alexis Lamb who took home 1st place with a time of 20:45.59.  Katie Hicks for was the top finisher for Tucker County in 4th place, as she crossed the finish line with a time of 22:00.37.  The other Lady Mt. Lions runners finished the Regional Championship as follows:  8th-Erin Chambers(23:10.84), 10th-Hannah Hardy(24:35.26), 11th-Karlee Smith(25:11.50), 14th-Addie Buckley(26:40.39), 16th-Alaira Hudson(27:19.33), 17th-Brianna Gooden(27:29.19).

 

The Class”A” Boys’ race was dominated by Doddridge County as they placed 4 runners in the top 7 to take the Regional Championship as a team.  The top runner of the meet was Doddridge County’s Carter Lipscomb with a time of 16:21.16.  The Tucker County Boys’ team placed 3rd in the event.  Taylor Long led the Mt. Lions with a 15th place finish on a time of 21:47.71.  Tucker County runners also placed as follows:  20th-Wesley Strawderman(22:43.38), 22nd-Clay Poling(22:58.97), 23rd-Haden Wamsley(23:03.70), 24th-Trent Eure(23:11.61) and 25th-Ethan McCrum(23:22.97).

 

In the third event of the day at Camp Kidd the Class “AA” Girls’ Region 2 Championship was won by Elkins.  The 1st place runner in the race was Addison Berdine from Elkins with a time of 21:59.40.  The last event run at Camp Kidd on October 22nd was the Class “AA” Boys’ Region 2 Championship.  The team Championship was won by the Lewis County Boys’.  The 1st place individual athlete in the race was Charlie Smoak from Elkins with a time of 17:18.09.

 

The Tucker County Cross-Country team would like to thank the Tucker County Parks Board and Jeff Kiess for the use of the land to host the Tucker County Invitational, PVC Championship and Regional Championship Meets at Camp Kidd the last three weeks.

 

The TCHS Girls’ Cross-Country team will run in the State Championship Meet this Saturday October 31st at Cabell Midland High School in Ona, WV.  Start time for the Class “A” Girls’ meet will be 9am.  For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
