HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team hosted Petersburg on Thursday January 9th. Tucker County led the whole game, but Petersburg surged late to tie the game to get the win over the Lady Mt. Lions in 2 overtimes 58-50.
Tucker County took the lead early as they led after one quarter 10-6. Both teams played even in the second quarter 11-11 to make the halftime score 21-17.
The Lady Mt. Lions were outscored slightly by Petersburg in the third 13-11 to cut the Tucker County lead to 32-30 after three quarters of play. The Lady Vikings then fought back late in the fourth and a foul was called on Tucker County with 0.5 seconds left in the game and the score showing the Lady Mt. Lions ahead by one point 42-41. Petersburg made 1 out of 2 foul shots to force the game into overtime with the score tied 42-42. Tucker County took an early lead in overtime, but the Lady Vikings battled back to tie the game again late. The game then went to another overtime with the score at 50-50. Petersburg then outscored Tucker County in the second overtime 8-0 to get the hard fought win by the final score of 58-50.
Terra Kuhn led Tucker County in scoring with 22 points and pulled down 13 rebounds despite being plagued with foul trouble throughout the game. Kadie Colebank had 9 points, 20 rebounds, 4 blocks and London Hood added 9 points, 7 rebounds, 5 steals for Tucker County in the loss. The Lady Mt. Lions JV team fell in their game 50-29.
CHARLESTON – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Charleston Catholic on Saturday January 11th for an afternoon varsity only contest. Charleston Catholic held a slim halftime lead, but Tucker County surged ahead in the third quarter and took home the road win by the final score of 52-40.
The game started with both teams battling back and forth as the Lady Irish led after one quarter 11-9. In the second quarter the game stayed tight as Tucker County and Charleston Catholic played even at 10-10 to make the score 21-19 Charleston Catholic at the halftime intermission.
The Lady Mt. Lions came out strong on defense in the third quarter as they outpaced the Lady Irish 15-3 to give Tucker County the 34-24 lead after three. The fourth quarter started with Tucker County continuing to extend their lead as they led by as many as 18 points. Charleston Catholic hit some three point baskets late, but Tucker County got the road victory by the final score of 52-40.
Tucker County was led in scoring by Terra Kuhn with 22 points, 15 rebounds. London Hood added 14 points, 5 rebounds and Nevaeh Nichols chipped in with 7 points for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win. Kadie Colebank had 4 points and pulled down 13 rebounds and a team high 7 blocks for Tucker County.
The Lady Mt. Lions(6-3) will return to action tonight Wednesday January 15th at South Harrison. Tucker County will then travel to Pocahontas County on Friday January 17th. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
