HAMBLETON – Tucker County hosted Southern Garrett on Thursday January 18th. The Lady Mt. Lions were outscored 23-10 in the final quarter to give the visiting Lady Rams the victory 56-47.
Tucker County jumped out to a good start in the first quarter as they led after one quarter 15-4. Southern fought back in the second quarter to outscore the Lady Mt. Lions 15-2 to give the Lady Rams a 19-17 halftime lead.
The third quarter was controlled by Tucker County as they scored 20 points in the quarter while holding Southern to 14 points to make the score 37-33 Lady Mt. Lions after three quarters. Tucker County continued to lead early in the fourth until the Lady Rams made a comeback. Southern would tie the game 44-44 with 4 minutes left in the game. The Lady Rams then took the 46-45 lead on two foul shots with 3:03 left in the contest. Southern built a 50-45 lead and Tucker County got within 3 at 50-47 with 23 seconds left in the game. The Lady Mt. Lions had to foul and Southern made their foul shots to get the road win by the final score of 56-47.
Tucker County was by Raven Matthews with 16 points, 14 rebounds and Ericka Zirk added 10 points, 8 rebounds. Macy Helmick chipped in with 9 points, 3 assists for the Lady Mt. Lion in the loss. The Tucker County JV team got the win in the first game 59-21.
Tucker County(8-3) will return to action on Thursday January 25th at Tygarts Valley. The Lady Mt. Lions will then host Gilmer County on Saturday January 27th for JV / Varsity contest starting at 3pm. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
