LADY MT. LIONS FALL TO WHEELING CENTRAL IN STATE TOURNEY 69-39

CHARLESTON – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team traveled to the WV State Tournament in Charleston to face Wheeling Central on Wednesday March 6th. The Lady Mt. Lions got down early and they were not able to mount a comeback as they fell in the Quarterfinal game to Wheeling Central by the final score of 69-39.

The Lady Mt. Lions struggled on offense as they missed their first 2 shots and Wheeling Central led 4-0 before Tucker County got on the scoreboard with 5:57 left in the first to make the score 4-2 Knights. Tucker County then went scoreless for another 2 minutes as Wheeling Central built a 8-2 lead with 3:57 left in the first. The offense for the Lady Mt. Lions struggled the rest of the first quarter as they trailed at the end of one quarter 21-8. Tucker County’s struggles on offense continued in the second quarter until late in the period as Tucker County cut the Wheeling Central lead to 31-19 with 57 seconds left in the second quarter. A late 3-point basket by the Knights made the Wheeling Central lead 15 at the halftime intermission 34-19.

A steal and layup by Tucker County to start the third quarter cut the Wheeling Central lead to 34-21, but that was as close as the Lady Mt. Lions got the rest of the contest as the Knights controlled the rest of the third quarter as they outscored Tucker County 15-13 in the third to make the score 49-32 after three quarters. The Knights would control the fourth quarter also as the Lady Mt. Lions could not mount a comeback. Wheeling Central outpaced Tucker County in the fourth quarter 20-7 to secure the victory over the Lady Mt. Lions by the final score of 69-39.

Tucker County was led in scoring by Aliyah Plum with 7 points. Terra Kuhn, McKinley Murphy, Riley Evans and London Hood each scored 6 points for the Lady Mt. Lions in the loss. Terra Kuhn led Tucker County in rebounds with 7 boards and McKinley Murphy added 6 rebounds.
