HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team hosted Pendleton County on Wednesday January 14th and picked up the victory 70-27.
The Lady Mt. Lions jumped out to an early lead after the first quarter 21-4. The defense for Tucker County continued in the second quarter as the Lady Mt. Lions held Pendleton County to just 5 points and scored 19 points in the period to lead at the half 40-9. Tucker County added to the lead in the third outscoring the Lady Wildcats 15-9 to push the score to 55-18 Tucker after three. The reserve players finished out the fourth quarter and the Lady Mt. Lions picked up the home win by the final score of 70-27.
Madison Mullenax led Tucker County with 12 points followed by Aiyana Kachmarek and Sydney Nestor with 10 points each. Elizabeth Nichols and Leslie Nestor added 9 points each for the Lady Mt. Lions in the victory. Nichols led Tucker County with 7 rebounds and Olivia Miller finished with 6 assists. The Tucker County JV team also got the win 39-22.
ST. MARYS – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to St. Marys on Thursday January 15th to face #2 Wheeling Central in the St. Marys Tournament. The Lady Knights held off the Lady Mt. Lions for a 62-49 win.
The first quarter went back and forth until Wheeling Central made a run late in the quarter to take a 17-9 advantage after one quarter of play. Tucker County fought back in the second quarter to cut the Lady Knights lead to 5 at the half 26-21. Wheeling Central came out firing in the third quarter and outscored the Lady Mt. Lions 14-11 in the quarter to take a 40-32 advantage after three. The fourth quarter belonged to Wheeling Central as they held off Tucker County once again and outpaced the Lady Lions 22-17 to get the 62-49 win.
Sydney Nestor led Tucker County with 17 points, 7 rebounds and Elizabeth Nichols added 13 points, 7 rebounds. Madison Mullenax chipped in 11 points for the Lady Mt. Lions in the loss.
ST. MARYS – Tucker County returned to St. Marys on Saturday January 17th to play Wirt County in the consolation game. The Lady Mt. Lions jumped out to a 26-9 halftime lead and never looked back as they cruised to a 59-12 win.
Tucker County struggled to get the offense going in first quarter, but outscored Wirt County 14-7 after one quarter. Defense was the key in the second quarter as the Lady Mt. Lions held the Lady Tigers to just 2 points in the quarter to push the lead to 26-9 at the half. The third quarter showed more defense for Tucker County and they outpaced Wirt County 19-1 in the period to blow the game open as the Lady Mt. Lions led 45-10 after three. The reserve players finished the game for Tucker County and the Lady Mt. Lions picked up the win 59-12.
Elizabeth Nichols and Sydney Nestor paced Tucker County with 14 points each. Nestor added 8 rebounds and 6 steals. Aiyana Kachmarek finished with 8 boards and Madison Mullenax grabbed 4 steals in the win for Tucker County.
