Lady Mt. Lions get wins at Pendleton and Pocahontas County

FRANKLIN – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team traveled to Pendleton County on Wednesday January 18th.

The Lady Mt. Lions came out with full court pressure and forced the Lady Wildcats into 40 turnovers to pick up the road win 54-19.

Tucker County came out firing as they scored 19 points in the first to lead after one 19-7. The Lady Mt. Lions continued to build their lead in the second as they outpaced the Lady Wildcats 11-5 in the quarter to take a 30-12 halftime advantage.

In the third quarter the Tucker County defense shutdown Pendleton County as they held them to just 2 points in the period. The Lady Mt. Lions scored 15 points in the third to push the lead to 45-14 after three. The final quarter would belong to Tucker County also as they finished the game with a 9-5 advantage in the fourth to pick up the road victory by the final score of 54-19.

Sydney Nestor led Tucker County with 16 points, 5 steals, 5 assists and Riley Evans added 10 points off the bench. Elizabeth Nichols had 9 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks for Tucker County and Sydney Moore collected 6 steals in the win. The Lady Mt. Lions JV team won also 50-21.

DUNMORE – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Pocahontas County on Friday January 20th for a PVC contest. Tucker County started out strong and never looked back as the raced to a 73-38 win.

The Lady Warriors fought hard to hang into the game in the first quarter as Tucker County led after one 14-9. The Lady Mt. Lions continued to score the ball and their defense started to be more effective as they outscored Pocahontas County 17-8 to take a 31-17 lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter the Tucker County defense again was active as they held the home team to just 6 points and exploded for 21 points to blow the game open after three 52-23. The Lady Mt. Lions got another 21 points in the fourth quarter to pick up the PVC road victory 73-38.

Sydney Nestor led Tucker County with 25 points, 5 Steals and 4 assists. Elizabeth Nichols scored a career high 18 points for the Lady Mt. Lions and Nichols collected 10 rebounds, 7 blocks, 6 steals. Sydney Moore added 10 points and Cecily Strawderman got 6 points for Tucker County in the road win. The Tucker County JV team won their contest 53-32.

The Lady Mt. Lions(12-2) will travel to Charleston Catholic on Saturday January 28th for a 1pm Varsity only tipoff. For more info or complete schedules go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
