HAMBLETON – The Tucker County’s Girls’ basketball team hosted PVC rival Moorefield on Wednesday Dec 18th. The Lady Mt. Lions used a 25 point second quarter to cruise to an 83-27 victory.
The game was close for the first 3 minutes of the contest, but a big run to end the quarter gave the host a 19-10 lead after one. Defense by Tucker County keyed a 25-6 second quarter advantage to blow the game open and the Lady Mt. Lions led at the half 44-16.
The Tucker County reserves outscored the Lady Yellowjackets in the third quarter 19-9 to make the score 63-25 after three quarters. Moorefield was unable to get the offense going in the fourth quarter as Tucker County got the win 83-27.
Tucker County was led by Elizabeth Nichols with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Stephanie Betler added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Savannah Ambrose finished with 4 block shots. The JV team picked up the win also 79-27.
GLEN DALE – On Friday Dec 20th the Lady Mt. Lions traveled to the Northern Panhandle to take part in the Annual John Marshall Holiday Tournament. Tucker County faced off against Wheeling Central the first night and took the loss in a tight contest 41-38.
The game was close throughout the game as neither team could pull away and the score was tied at 8 after the first quarter of play. In the second quarter the Lady Mt. Lions only managed 6 points, but played great defense to hold the Lady Knights to just 8 to make the score 16-14 at the half.
The scoring picked up in the third quarter as Wheeling Central outscored Tucker County 17-16 to lead 33-30 going into the last quarter. Both teams played great defense down the stretch and the Lady Mt. Lions missed a three point attempt as time expired and fell in the contest 41-38.
Madison Mullenax led Tucker County with 10 points and Stephanie Betler added 9 points. Savannah Ambrose finished with 7 rebounds and 10 blocks.
GLEN DALE – In the game Saturday Dec 21st the Lady Mt. Lions faced off against a talented Linsly Academy. Again the contest was close, but Tucker County fell 46-43.
Tucker County came out slow to start the game as Linsly took an early 6-0 lead. The Lady Mt. Lions fought back to end the quarter on a 10-2 run and lead after one 10-8. Linsly came out on fire in the second to outscore Tucker County 17-6 and led at the half 25-16.
The third quarter started with the Lady Mt. Lions falling behind by as many as 13 points in the quarter, but a run to end the quarter put Tucker County within 4 points 35-31 after the third quarter. In the fourth quarter both teams played even as the Lady Mt. Lions stayed within 1 point the whole quarter, but was unable to take the lead. The game came down to the last possession as Tucker County again took a three point shot to tie the game in the final 5 seconds, but was unable to hit it and Linsly got the victory 46-43.
Bekah Simmons led the Lady Mt. Lions with 13 points and Stephanie Betler added 10 points all of which came in the fourth quarter. Elizabeth Nichols added 8 points for Tucker County and Simmons led with 9 rebounds.
