CAMP KIDD – The Tucker County Softball team hosted Preston for a doubleheader on Monday April 22nd. In Game 1 Preston jumped out to an 8-0 lead in their first at bat. Tucker County answered back in the bottom half of the 1st inning with 5 runs to make the score 8-5 Preston after 1 inning. The Lady Knights were held scoreless and the Lady Mt. Lions tied the game 8-8 after 3 innings of play. Preston answered with 2 runs in the next inning followed by 3 runs from Tucker County to make the score 11-10 Lady Mt. Lions after 4 innings. Preston fought back with 4 runs to take the advantage 14-11 at the bottom of the 5th inning. Tucker County then scored 3 runs in the 5th to regain the lead after the 5th inning 15-14. The 6th inning did not disappoint as Preston score 5 runs and Tucker County scored 4 runs to tie the game 19-19 after 6 innings. The Lady Knights built a 27-22 lead, but Tucker County rallied in the final inning with a walk off bunt by Gracie Filler to pick up the exciting 28-27 victory. Tucker County collected 30 hits in the contest. Lauren Cockerham got the win for the Lady Mt. Lions on the mound. The Lady Mt. Lions were led at the plate by McKinley Murphy who finished Game 1 with a 3 run home run, 2 doubles and 1 triple. Hailey Tuttle added 2 triples and 1 single for Tucker County, while Gracie Rapp had 1 triple and 1 double. Anna DiBacco ended the game with 2 doubles and Lauren Cockerham, Gracie Filler, Cheyenne Gooden, Erin Cassidy and Aliyah Plum added hits for Tucker County in the victory.
In Game 2 the bats did not cool off as both teams continued to put the ball into play. Preston jumped out to an early led and the Lady Knights led 16-8 after 3 innings of play. The Lady Mt. Lions rallied back in the 4th as they cut the Preston lead to 16-14. Preston then answered with 9 runs in the 6th inning to go up 25-14. Tucker County would hang close in the contest, but the Lady Mt. Lions could not complete another comeback in Game 2. Tucker County fell in the contest by the final score of 26-20. Lauren Cockerham took the loss on the mound for Tucker County while Erin Cassidy and Gracie Rapp came in to pitch in relief. The Lady Mt. Lions had 32 hits in the game. Tucker County was led at the plate by Gracie Rapp with 2 doubles and 2 singles and McKinley Murphy added 1 triple and 3 singles. Lauren Cockerham, Olivia Keeler, Anna DiBacco and Hailey Tuttle added multiple hits for Tucker County. Erin Cassidy chipped in with 1 triple while Cheyenne Gooden had 1 double and Gracie Filler collected a single.
CAMP KIDD – The Lady Mt. Lions hosted Frankfort for a doubleheader on April 23rd. Tucker County struggled to keep paced with the Lady Falcons bats to fall in the contest by the final scores of 13-3 and 15-1.
In Game 1 Frankfort scored 3 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. The Lady Mt. Lions answered back with 2 runs to make the score 3-2 Frankfort. The Lady Falcons would then score 6 runs over the next 2 innings to give the visitors a 9-2 lead at the bottom of the 4th inning. Tucker County could only manage just 1 run the rest of the contest and Frankfort scored 4 more runs to end the game by the final score of 13-3.
The Lady Mt. Lions had 8 hits in the game and they were led by Shelby Beavers and McKinley Murphy with 2 hits each from the plate.
Tucker County struggled to find runs in Game 2, and Frankfort exploded for 8 runs in the 1st inning to lead after 1 inning of play 8-1. The Lady Falcons then got the bats going again with 7 runs to start the 2nd inning to push the lead to 15-1. The Lady Mt. Lions could not turn the offense around and they fell in Game 2 by the final score of 15-1.
Tucker County were limited to just 3 hits by Frankfort in Game 2. Anna DiBacco, Cheyenne Gooden and Gracie Rapp had the 3 hits for the Lady Mt. Lions in the loss. Tucker County’s 5 Senior Softball players were recognized between the games: McKinley Murphy, Anna DiBacco, Aliyah Plum, Lauren McCrum and Lauren Cockerham.
