CAMP KIDD – The Tucker County Softball team hosted East Hardy on Monday April 22nd. The Lady Mt. Lions battled back in the 6th inning with 4 runs to secure the 9-6 win.
Tucker County got on the scoreboard first as they scored 2 runs in the 1st inning to lead after 1 inning 2-0. East Hardy then fought back in the top of the 2nd inning as they plated 5 runs to take a 5-2 advantage halfway through the 2nd inning. The Lady Mt. Lions then got the bats going in the bottom of the 2nd inning as they scored 3 runs to tie the score at 5-5 after 2 innings. Neither team could produce runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings to keep the score at 5-5 entering the 6th inning. The Lady Cougars then scored 1 run in the top of the 6th inning to take a 6-5 lead after the top of the 6th. Tucker County then got hot at the plate as they would score 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to put the Lady Mt. Lions back in front 9-6. The Tucker County defense then held East Hardy scoreless in the top of the 7th inning to secure the win for the Lady Mt. Lions 9-6.
Ava Shaffer led Tucker County with 3 hits on the night, including a home run over the center field fence and 2 doubles to right field. Katie Hicks also produced 3 hits(triple, double, single) on the night for the Lady Mt. Lions. Sutton Pase, Peyton Hicks, Rachel Felton, Brianna Gooden, and Reagan Herron chipped in with 1 hit each for Tucker County. Peyton Hicks got the start for the Lady Mt. Lions in the circle as she went 3-1/3 innings. Ava Shaffer entered the game in relief as she went 3-2/3 innings and got the win.
Before the game the Tucker County Softball Seniors were recognized. These Seniors are as follows: Katie Hicks, Addie Hicks, Brianna Gooden, and Rachel Felton.
MOOREFIELD – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Moorefield for a doubleheader on Tuesday April 23rd. Tucker County fell in both games by the scores of 11-3 and 4-3.
In Game 1 the visiting Lady Mt. Lions got the scoring started as they led after 1 inning 1-0. Tucker County then added 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning to make the score 3-0 halfway through the 2nd. Moorefield then responded on offense as they plated 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning to tie the score at 3-3 after 2 innings. The Lady Yellowjackets then took the lead in the 4th inning as they scored 2 runs to make the score 5-3 after 4 innings. Moorefield then added 1 run in the 5th inning and 5 runs in the 6th inning to end the game with the final score of 11-3 Moorefield.
Ava Shaffer, Peyton Hicks, and Rachel Felton hit homeruns for the Lady Mt. Lions in the game. Shaffer also added a single to give her 2 hits in the game. Addie Hick added 1 hit in the loss for Tucker County. Brianna Gooden got the start for the Lady Mt. Lions at pitcher and took the loss.
In Game 2 the offense for both teams struggled to score runs through the first 2 innings. Tucker County then got on the scoreboard in the 3rd inning as they plated 2 runs to take a 2-0 lead after the top of the 3rd. The Lady Yellowjackets battled back to score 1 run in the bottom of the 3rd to make the score 2-1 Tucker County. Each team then scored 1 run each in the 4th inning to put the score to 3-2 Tucker County after 4 innings. Moorefield then pulled ahead with 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to give the home team the 4-3 lead after 5 innings. Tucker County was unable to overcome the 1 run lead as the game ended with a Moorefield win by the score of 4-3.
Addie Hicks led the way at the plate for Tucker County as she had 2 hits(1 triple), while Ava Shaffer added 2 hits(1 double) for the Lady Mt. Lions. Peyton Hicks had 1 hit(double), while Rachel Felton chipped in with 1 hit and Sutton Pase had 1 hit for Tucker County in the loss. Peyton Hicks got the start in the circle for the Lady Mt. Lions as she went the complete 6 innings for Tucker County.
FRANKLIN – Tucker County traveled to Pendleton County on Thursday April 25th for a single game against the Lady Wildcats. The Lady Mt. Lions struggled at the plate as they fell in the contest 6-1.
Pendleton County got on the scoreboard in the 1st inning as they scored 1 run to make the score 1-0 after 1 inning. Tucker County would tie the game in the 3rd inning as Addie Hicks scored on a wild pitch by the Lady Wildcats. Pendleton County then regained the lead in the 5th inning as they scored 1 run to take a 2-1 advantage. The homestanding Lady Wildcats then plated 4 runs in the 6th inning to give them a 6-1 lead after 6 innings. The Lady Mt. Lions could not rally in the top of the 7th as the game ended with the final score of 6-1 Pendleton County. Tucker County ended the game with 0 hits as Lady Wildcats pitcher Baylee Beachler tossed a no hitter. Peyton Hicks got the start for Tucker County at pitcher as she went 3-2/3 innings before Ava Shaffer and Brianna Gooden entered the game in relief.
CAMP KIDD – The Lady Mt. Lions hosted Elkins for a doubleheader on Friday April 26th. Tucker County dominated the Lady Tigers in both games as they swept Elkins 13-1 and 13-4.
In Game 1 Tucker County scored 10 runs in the 4th inning to pull away for the 13-1 victory. The Lady Mt. Lions collected 8 hits in the contest. Brianna Gooden led Tucker County with 2 hits, while Katie Hicks had 1 triple and Ava Shaffer added 1 double. Addie Hicks, Peyton Hicks, Rachel Felton and Makenna Evans added 1 hit each in the Game 1 win for the Lady Mt. Lions. Brianna Gooden got the start in the circle for Tucker County as she went the complete game for the win.
In Game 2 Elkins started the game with 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning. Tucker County then answered in the bottom of the 1st as they scored 2 runs to tie the game at 2-2 after 1 inning. Elkins then scored 1 run in the top of the 2nd inning to regain the lead. The Lady Mt. Lions offense would then answer again as they would score 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd to give the home team the 5-3 lead after 2 innings. Tucker County then put the game out of reach in the 4th inning as they got the bats going to score 6 runs to push the Lady Mt. Lions lead to 11-3. Elkins then scored 1 run in the top of the 5th inning, but Tucker County responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to end the game with the final score of 13-4 Lady Mt. Lions.
Ava Shaffer led Tucker County with 2 hits including a left field homerun in the 5th inning. Makenna Evans also had 2 hits(1 triple) and Sutton Pase added 2 hits(1 double). Peyton Hicks also had 1 hit for the Lady Mt. Lions, while Katie Hicks and Brianna Gooden chipped in with 1 hit each in the Tucker County Game 2 win. Peyton Hicks got the win for Tucker County in the circle as she went 4 innings and Ava Shaffer entered the game in relief.
