HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball opened the season with a home game against Elkins on Thursday December 2nd. The Lady Mt. Lions battled through foul trouble throughout the game to pick up a hard-fought win by the final score of 66-59.
The first quarter was controlled by Tucker County as they led after one quarter 16-12. Elkins responded in the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Mt. Lions 21-15 to make the halftime score 33-31 Elkins.
Tucker County came out focused in the third quarter as they outscored the Lady Tigers 19-9 in the quarter to make the score 50-42 Lady Mt. Lions after three quarters. The fourth quarter was close throughout, but the Lady Mt. Lions held off Ekins to get the win by the final score of 66-59.
Kadie Colebank led Tucker County with 28 points, 29 rebounds and 6 blocks. Jayden Kuhn added 24 points and Jacey Davis pulled down 6 rebounds for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win. The Tucker County JV team also got the win in a thrilling game 33-32.
CLARKSBURG – The Lady Mt. Lions Basketball team traveled to Notre Dame on Saturday December 4th for a Varsity only contest. Tucker County dominated the game start to finish to capture a 76-9 win.
The Lady Mt. Lions started the game with a 20-0 run as Tucker County played 10 different players in the first quarter as they led after one quarter 20-3. The second quarter was more of the same for Tucker County as they outscored the Lady Irish 23-4 to make the halftime score 43-7.
The Lady Mt. Lions controlled the third quarter with a 21-0 advantage to make the score 64-7 after three. The fourth quarter was a 12-2 edge by Tucker County to put the final score at 76-9 Lady Mt. Lions.
All 12 players for Tucker County played significant minutes in the contest and 11 of 12 players scored in the game. Jayden Kuhn led Tucker County with 16 points and Kadie Colebank added 14 points. Ericka Zirk had 10 points along with Macy Helmick and Jacey Davis chipping in 8 points each. Colebank controlled the boards with 9 rebounds and she also handed out 5 assists. Kuhn collected 5 steals and 4 assists for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win.
Tucker County(2-0) will return to action on Thursday at home against East Hardy. The JV contest will start at 6pm with the Varsity game to follow. The Lady Mt. Lions will then travel to Pendleton County on Tuesday December 14th for a JV and Varsity contest starting at 6:15pm. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
