HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team hosted Pendleton County on Wednesday February 5th. The Lady Mt. Lions pulled away in the second quarter and then cruised to a 61-33.
The first quarter was even as both teams put up 11 points to make the score 11-11 after one quarter of play. Tucker County then pulled away slightly in the second quarter as the Lady Mt. Lions outscored Pendleton County 17-8 to put the halftime lead at 28-19 Tucker County.
The Lady Mt. Lions then extended their lead in the third quarter as they outpaced the Lady Wildcats 16-8 to make the score 44-27 after three quarters. Tucker County would win the fourth 17-6 to make the final score 61-33 Tucker County.
Terra Kuhn led the Lady Mt. Lions with 18 points, 9 rebounds. Kuhn connected on 5 three point baskets and scored 17 of 18 points in the second half. London Hood added followed close behind with 17 points, 5 steals for Tucker County. Gracie Rapp and Kadie Colebank chipped in with 11 points and Rapp pulled down 7 rebounds, while Colebank added 5 rebounds on the night for the Lady Mt. Lions. The Tucker County JV team fell 53-49.
MOOREFIELD – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Moorefield on Saturday February 8th for a PVC matchup with the Yellowjackets. Moorefield led after the second quarter, but Tucker County came back to tied the game and take the lead late in the contest. The Yelllowjackets forced overtime and Moorefield was able to pull out the victory in the third overtime by the final score of 73-69.
Tucker County got off to a good start as they led 8-0 to start the game, but Moorefield fought back to tie the game at the end of one at 16-16. Moorefield would control the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Mt. Lions 16-9 to take the lead at the half 32-25.
The third quarter was played even as Moorefield held a slight 10-9 edge to push the score to 42-34 Yellowjackets after three. The Lady Mt. Lions then battled back in the fourth quarter as they outscored Moorefield 20-12 in the final period to force overtime at 54-54. In the first overtime Moorefield built a lead, but Tucker County fought back again to tie the score at 60-60 to force overtime #2. The second overtime was much like the first overtime as both teams played even and the score remained tied at 65-65 as the overtime period ended to force overtime #3. The Yellowjackets then outscored the Lady Mt. Lions 8-4 in the third overtime to give Moorefield the win by the final score of 73-69.
Terra Kuhn led all scorers in the contest with a career high 38 points for Tucker County. Kadie Colebank added 14 points and London Hood chipped in with 11 points for the Lady Mt. Lions. Kuhn also pulled down 13 rebounds and Colebank had 10 rebounds for Tucker County in the loss. The Lady Mt. Lions JV team fell in their game 33-23.
Tucker County(12-6) will return to action Thursday February 13th at home for a varsity only contest against Notre Dame at 7pm. The Lady Mt. Lions will then travel to Notre Dame on Monday February 17th for a varsity only contest at 7pm. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
