HAMBLETON – The Tucker County Girls’ Basketball team hosted Pendleton County on Tuesday February 27th. The Lady Mt. Lions got the lead in the first quarter and pulled away for a 70-44 victory to capture the Regional Championship.
Tucker County would dominate the first quarter as they led after one quarter 23-10. The Lady Mt. Lions continued to control the game in the second quarter as they outscored the Lady Wildcats 22-8 to make the halftime score 45-18 Tucker County.
In the third quarter the Lady Mt. Lions would outscore Pendleton County 19-13 to build on their lead and the score would go to 64-31 Tucker County after three quarters. The visiting Lady Wildcats would also get outscored in the fourth quarter 13-9 as the Lady Mt. Lions captured the win 77-40 to secure their 20th consecutive State Tournament berth.
Raven Matthews led the Lady Mt. Lions with 13 points, 13 rebounds and Brylee Wetzel had 12 points. Katie Hicks added 11 points, 6 assists, 5 steals and Macy Helmick had 10 points, 7 assists for Tucker County. Makenna Evans chipped in with 10 points and Ericka Zirk pulled down 10 rebounds for Tucker County in the win.
#3 Tucker County(19-5) will play in the WV Girls’ State Tournament today against #6 Tyler Consolidated at 9:30am. The winner of this game will play the winner of #2 Gilmer County / #7 Riverview in the Semi-Finals on Friday March 8th at 7:15pm.
